Immigration

Immigration

Wynyard Wood has helped thousands of new “Kiwis” make a home for themselves and their families in New Zealand – Aotearoa – Godzone. As it is one of the most beautiful places in the world to live, we get great satisfaction in helping people set up a new life here.
Immigration is something we have extensive experience in, beginning with our founder, the son of Colonel Robert Henry Wynyard, who came to New Zealand from England in the mid-1800s.

Living in New Zealand

We have helped thousands of new “Kiwis” establish a new life in New Zealand.
Permanent residence can be obtained under a number of categories, some of which are briefly outlined below:

1. Skilled Migrant
The Skills Based category (also referred to as the Skilled Migrant category) is a two-step application process based on a numerical points system. The first step is to submit an "Expression of Interest" to Immigration New Zealand. Points are allocated for factors including qualifications, work experience and age.
In our experience, to meet or exceed the pass mark, most applicants will need to have a skilled job offer or current skilled employment in New Zealand, possess a professional or trade qualification approved by the NZQA, and have relevant work experience.
Applicants must be below 55 years of age and have a high level of English skills (minimum IELTS score 6.5 or equivalent).
Once an Expression of Interest has been selected and checked by Immigration New Zealand, the applicant will be invited to apply for residence. This (second) step requires the provision of documentation verifying the applicant's educational and employment history, and confirming that health and character requirements are met.
The applicant's immediate family members (partner/spouse and dependent children) can be included in this application, provided they meet the relevant health, character and language requirements.

2. Family
This category provides an opportunity to gain residence for those living in a partnership (married, de facto or same sex) with a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and, in some cases, for the parents, dependent children, and adult siblings of New Zealand citizens or permanent residents to migrate to join their family in New Zealand.

3. Migrant Investment
The Migrant Investment category comprises of two categories: investor 1 (also called “Investor Plus”) and investor 2 (also called "investor"). Please refer to our business visa page for more details.

4. Entrepreneur and Entrepreneur Plus
The Entrepreneur category is linked to the Long Term Business Visa Scheme and applies to those applicants that have successfully established a business in New Zealand under that scheme. Please refer to our business visa page for more details.
The Entrepreneur Plus Category allows those who have been granted an LTBV to apply for residence sooner than the two years imposed by the Entrepreneur Category (basically fast tracking themselves to residents), if:
  • at least NZ$0.5 million is invested into the business, and
  • they have created a minimum of three full time positions for New Zealand residents or citizens in that business.
There are other strict criteria which apply surrounding criteria such as English language, time required in New Zealand, health and character etc. Therefore, we strongly recommend you contact us [immigjrate@kwynya2rdwoojd.co.snzi] if you wish to explore this option further.

5. Special Categories
There are also special categories of residence, for example, for successful refugee claimants, and under the Pacific and Samoan Quotas. For more details on these categories please contact us [immigjrate@kwynya2rdwoojd.co.snzi].
Applications for residence are considered by the New Zealand Immigration Service on the basis of whether the principal applicant meets the policy criteria. Spouses and dependent children may be included in the principal applicant’s application, however all those included must meet standard language, health and character requirements.
