It all begins with Lily, a lonely oddball and fast-food waitress who happens to be a hopeless romantic. Then there's Jarrod, the man of Lily's dreams, another lonely oddball and video game clerk, who has spent the last decade plotting ultimate vengenance on a bully from his high school past. When these two connect at a "dress as your favorite animal" party, it's a match that seems made in outcast heaven, but when Lily decides to risk everything for love, her hopes are nearly dashed. In summary: "There's someone out there for everyone". Recommended. BTW, the R rating is due to language, but even that doesn't deserve an R. The New Zealand rating is "Recommended for mature audiences" which translates to mean age 16+.

AVAILABILITY OF VHS OR DVD COPIES

An R1 ntsc version is available from various North American sources for about $20us. The disc is 1.85:1 enhanced for 16x9, with dolby digital 5.1 surround. The R1 disc has both an English and a Spanish language track with optional English, Spanish and French subtitles. The director's commentary track is supported by additional commentary from Loren Horsley, Joel Tobeck and Craig Hall. Additional extras includes 13 deleted scenes, totaling some 26 minutes; nearly 3 minutes of outtakes and a 5 minute music video by 'The Phoenix Foundation' using cuts from the film. Miramax has also added 13+ minutes of various unrelated movies that they are calling "Sneak Peeks" to the disc. It sells in the UK for about 16#. It is available R4 pal in New Zealand at about $40nz.
The R4 pal disc from New Zealand is 1.85 enhanced with either dolby digital 2.0 or 5.1 surround. There is an English subtitles option. In addition to the director's commentary track, mentioned above, there are 17:36 minutes of deleted scenes, a 2:05 minute theatrical trailer, 29:52 minutes of cast and crew interviews, a 21:21 minute interview with Taika Waititi and 70 seconds of the "Mouse Wheel".
It is available on Blu-ray in Australia for about $25au, in New Zealand for about $35nz, in the U.S for about $25us, in the UK for about 14# and in various european countries for about 16eur. As of 1 January 2010, I have yet to confirm, but it would seem to be coded all-region. Likewise I have yet to confirm what, if any, extras are present on the Blu-ray version. Any help with this would be appreciated.
