A young solo mother loves her son and his needs are formost, but she still has room in her heart for her very broken brother, even as her fundamentalist mother rejects her. But when the brother is responsible for a woman's broken neck, during his burglary of her house, families are changed as crisis amplifies and at times the young mother seems to be the only adult. Excellent performances from most of the cast, including the baby. This film is a project of the bankrupt 'Kahukura Productions' and probably its best. The camera work is top notch as is the soundtrack. I hope that Larry Parr is called upon to direct other projects, as I suspect a large part of the quality here is his doing. Highly recommended.

AVAILABILITY OF VHS OR DVD COPIES
R4 PAL DVDs can be purchased from various New Zealand sources for about $30nz. It is presented in its original 2.35 aspect ratio and an optional 1.78 ratio. Stereo prologic 2.1 and 5.1 dolby digital audio are offered. No subtitles and the only extra is the theatrical trailer. It is also available in VHS/PAL for about $10nz.
